RE: First meeting of Commission
Congratulations on your appointment to the Commission. I look forward to working with
you. We are enclosing a copy of the City Charter for your review. In addition we would
like to schedule a meeting to discuss the procedure, process and scheduling that you as
members would like to implement.
We are hoping you can attend a brief (no more than one hour) meeting at 5:00 p.m. on
Thursday, May 13, in Harvat Hall located inside the front door of City Hall, 410 East
Washington Street. Please notify me (356 -5041) or e-mail (marian- karrajowa- city.org) if
that time or day does not work for you. It is important that we have all nine of you
present to discuss future scheduling.
Also if you could take a few minutes and return the two forms enclosed (business listing
and meeting schedule preference) to me prior to the meeting next Thursday that would
be helpful. A postage paid return envelope is enclosed for your convenience.
Thanks you and I look forward to seeing you next week.

I am very pleased to inform you of your appointment to the Charter Review Commission
for a one year term expiring May 4, 2005. A list of Commission members is enclosed.
The City Council appointed William F. Sueppel as Chair. The Commission will be
staffed by City Clerk Marian Karr and City Attorney Eleanor Dilkes.
All Board and Commission members are required to fill out a Business Listing. This
should include all businesses in which you or your spouse /partner have an ownership
interest (for example, sole proprietor, partner, 5% or more of a corporation's
stockholdings). Please fill out the attached form and return it to the City Clerk's office in
the enclosed envelope.
If you have any questions regarding this appointment, please contact Marian Karr (356-
5041). Information will be sent to you shortly regarding the upcoming meeting schedule.

Duties
Duties of the Charter Review Commission will be to review the existing City Charter and within twelve
months recommend any charter amendments that it deems fit. Such amendments shall be submitted by
the City Council to the voters in the form prescribed by the Commission, and an amendment becomes
effective when approved by a majority of those voting.
