Summary of Minutes
June 6, 2023
Iowa City City Council special formal meeting, 3:00 p.m. held at City Hall — Emma J.
Harvat Hall, 410 E. Washington Street. Mayor Teague presiding. Council members
present: Alter, Bergus, Dunn, Harmsen, Taylor, Teague, Thomas. Absent: None. Staff
members present: Fruin, Jones, Kilburg, Goers, and Fruehling. Unless otherwise noted,
all actions were affirmative and unanimous.
Moved by Taylor, seconded by Dunn, to adjourn to executive session to evaluate the
professional competency of individuals whose appointment, hiring, performance or
discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable
injury to those individuals' reputation and that those individuals' request a closed
session; and to discuss the purchase or sale of particular real estate where premature
disclosure could be reasonably expected to increase the price the governmental body
would have to pay for that property or reduce the price the governmental body would
receive for that property. The minutes and the tape recording of the portion of the closed
session related to real estate shall be available for public examination when and if the
transaction discussed is completed. The Mayor declared the motion carried and
adjourned into executive session 3:01 p.m.
Executive session was recessed to the work session 5:28 p.m. and returned after
the regular formal meeting 7:31 p.m. Council returned to open session 8:04 p.m.
Moved by Alter, seconded by Bergus, to adjourn special meeting 8:06 p.m.
