PROCLAMATION
Whereas, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), also known as Reflex Sympathetic
Dystrophy (RSD) is a nerve disorder that causes chronic pain; and
Whereas, the symptoms of CRPS/RSD are often described as burning that is out of proportion to
the severity of the initial injury and can include swelling and extreme sensitivity to touch; and
Whereas, while CRPS/RSD was first identified during the Civil War, it remains a poorly
understood condition which has no cure; and
Whereas, the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke and other institutes of the
National Institutes of Health support research relating to CRPS/RSD; and
Whereas, members of the CRPS/RSD community will spread awareness in November; and
Whereas, On Nov. 6, 2023, members of the CRPS/RSD community will celebrate the 10th-
annual Color The World Orange day to spread awareness of this poorly understood pain disorder.
Now, Therefore, 1, Bruce Teague, Mayor of Iowa City, do hereby proclaim the month of
November 2023 to be
CRPS Awareness Month
And do hereby proclaim Monday, November 6, 2023 as
Color the World Orange for CRPS/RSD
Awareness Day
in Iowa City, Iowa.

PROCLAMATION
whereas, National Apprenticeship Week celebrates the vital role of Registered
Apprenticeship programs in creating economic opportunities by allowing apprentices to earn
while they learn and providing a pathway to high -quality, in -demand careers in Iowa City and
across the nation; and
Whereas, at this moment of historic investment in roads, bridges, and the clean energy
infrastructure of the future, our region is home to state-of-the-art Registered Building Trades
Apprenticeship training centers that are scaling up to meet the needs of contractors while
offering local career seekers affordable paths to secure jobs with dignity; and
Whereas, the City of Iowa City recognizes the role of Registered Building Trades
Apprenticeship programs and Quality Pre -Apprenticeship Programs in expanding equitable
workforce opportunities that are inclusive of individuals who have been historically
underrepresented, marginalized, and adversely affected by persistent poverty and inequality, thus
providing a path for all qualified individuals, including women, youth, people of color, veterans,
rural communities, people returning from incarceration, and individuals with disabilities to
become apprentices and build our future; and
Whereas, the City of Iowa City recognizes that Registered Apprenticeship programs and their
affiliated labor organizations and employers provide a key strategy for improving job quality,
and creating access to good -paying, family -sustaining jobs for all, while addressing some of our
nation's pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our infrastructure and modernizing our
energy economy.
Now, Therefore,l, Bruce Teague, Mayor of Iowa City, do hereby proclaim November 13,
2023, through November 19, 2023, to be
National Apprenticeship Week
in Iowa City, Iowa.
