distributed. Susan Small, President of the
Iowa City Swim Club, was present to expresa
their concerns in relation to this iasue.
Sho 9ave a briof history of the Iowa City
Swim Club and explained their pr09ram. She
stated the present time frame, 6130-9100 a.m.,
and the ~O meter 10n9 courso were important
for thoir swinvnors. All compotition for youth
nino yoars and over use the 50 meter lonq
course and it is important for swilM\ers
to train on a 10n9 course. She stated the
mornin9 hours wore important I in that in the
afternoon they wore confinod to 25 metors.
Willis asked about their scholarship pr09ram.
Ms. Small indicated the club routinely 9ives
two scholarships each season if requests are
made. Weidoman asked if City Park Pool could
bo utilized by the Swim Club durin9 the swnmer

COMMISSION I meetinq centered mainly on the peninsula area
issues and possible proposals for REAP
fundinq. She roported the Rivorfront
Commission is supportinq Jonn Kennedy'l,
Colleqe of Enqineerinq I requeat for a now
atudy on the peninsula/wetland area, They
also are planninq on submittinq an application
for REAP fundinq for acquisition of the
forested wotlands (this would include the
area north of Terrell Mill Park and Bruco
Glasqow's property), and was under the
impreasion that they also will bo submittinq
an appl1cation for the river corridor trail.
She atated a resolution was beinq sent to
the Ci ty councU asking them to send an open

Iowa City ReLEIIF Proqram. The lImerican
Forestry IIssocfition has initiated a
nationwide pro\jram directed toward eliminatin\j
the effects of \jlobal warmin\j throu\jh the
plantin\j of 100 million trees around the world
by the end of 1992, The City Forester has
initiated the Iowa City ReLEIIF Pro\jram to
help in this endeavor. Trueblood reported
that the City Forester I s \joal is 100 trees
or $10 I 000, of which the city will be
dedicatin\j $2,000, The City Forester hopes
to obtain the romainin\j amount throu\jh
donations from civic \jroups, orqanizations
and individuals. The City Council will be
asked to support and endorse this proqram
at their next meetinq. IIlso, the City
Forester developed a certificate that would
be qiven to individuals donatin\j and plantinq
a tree in memorial to deceased loved ones,
as part of tho Memorial Forestry Proqram.
