meeting in which they discussed the annual fundraising
drive. They are preparing a brochure to be sent to 15,000
households in the city. Projected costs of $2,500 - 3,000
include the expenses associated with printing the brochure
and postage costs. The campaign will emphasizQ that funds
will be utilized locally.
4. Peg and Bill Hccarty have agreed to serve on the
Variety Club panel. Peg is working closely with United Way
regarding the variety Club as there is concern that the
community will not readily accept yet another fundraising
entity in the community,
5. The initial lease agreement for Camp Cardinal is being
prepared by a local attorney and will be presented to the
Youth Services Foundation board for their review in the
upcoming weeks.

stutting tor their 15,000 tundraiaing mailing. The HYEP
board was invitod to participate in the ettort,
3. The United Way Planning Allocation Committee has ranked
Hayor's Youth 11th out ot 31 agonciol. This compares to
16th out ot 32 agencies in FY 1989. Carrie said the agency
ranking is determinod by a number ot criteria I importance
to cOJllJllunity, tiscal responsibility and quality ot agency
being some ot them. She will bring the actual guidelines
tor ranking to a tuture meeting.
4, Peg reportod on her recent Conservation Corps meeting
in Prairie de Chien, Wisconsin. Four states will combine
corps to work on a Miasissippi River Project at Bell View
State Park, Peg will represent the etate ot Iowa in this
endeavor.

1. The Mississippi River Conservation Corps (HRCC) update
was given by Peg. The HRCC is a collaborative project by
the conservation corpa ot Iowa, 11lino1o, W1oconBin and
Minnaaota. It 10 a tour (4) week long projoct. The
prospective project aelected tor the week spent in Iowa
will be construction of stllirs providing access to the
Mississippi River at Dollevue Stato Park in Dellevue, Iowa.
Sixteen (16) youth will participate. The other collabo-
rating states currently have year round conservation
programs in eUect and will serve as models tor the
development of a year round Iowa corps.
2. The Trinity Episcopal Church has notiUod MYEP and
Youth Homes, Inc. jointly, that they are among the tinal
candidates tor consideration for tenancy to thoir rental
space in tho basomont aroa of tho church. The space would
bo available in June at a rota of $150.00 per month and
rented undor a leaso ogrsement. Peg and Dill MCCarty will
appear boforo the selection committee on May 7, 1990 to
assist in tho tinal deciaion,

many individuals attended and picked up matorials. Peg

3, The Youth Services Foundation fundraiaing brochure was
mailed April 25, 1990. Everyone was encouraged to make
five psrsonal contacts and urge thom to donate. Oob
suggested mentioning the fundraiser at sorvice clubs
meetings, and emphasize that the procoeds will remain in
Iowa City. NCS may be contacted in 1991 to automata
aspects of the mailing.
4, Bob Downor, attorney for tho Rotary Club io currently
reviewing the loaso for Camp Cardinal. It is plannad to
havo the property lea sod by June 1, 1990. The first major
accompliohmont will be to conduct a complete site survey
prior to any improvements, recording tho natural plant
life,
5, Linda Miller reported on tho Sox Equity Grant Workshop
of April 20, 1990 at Wost High School.

Milkman reminded everyone of Community Development Week and the awards
ceremony to be held at the Holiday Inn April 10, 1990, at 4:00 PM. Milkman
stated five awards were to be given: Karen Hradek for Neighborhood
Participation, Jose Otero for Outstanding Contractor/Houslng Rehabilitation
Projects, Jane Hagedorn for Outstanding Subcontractor/Rehabllltatlon
Projects, Ruth Becker for Long-term Clthen Volunteer and Active
Participant, and Broadway Street Neighborhood Center for Outstanding
Public/Private Partnership Project, In addition, the City 15 to receive an
award for the number of Female/Minority Contractors in the program.
Milkman announced upcoming events:

pay for the SUlMler Camp proCJram, but askod
if a payment plan could be ostablished. Moran
stated in the past tho departmont offerod
a payment plan but abandoned it due to
difficulties in obtaininCJ payments when due.
He stated the department accepts Master
Card and Visa, enablinCJ people to charCJe the
fee, Also, tho proCJram consists of four-two
week sossions, and a person may reCJister evory
two weeks, which, in effect, is a paymont
plan. Ho stated persons may notify tho office
in writinCJ what sossions they would like to
enroll in and ataff will notify them if a
session is fillinCJ up, which onablos thom
to wait until necossary to reCJister and pay.
