City Council Performance Appraisal Conversation
2006
Prepared by Mayor Wilburn 7-5-06
This worksheet is intended to guide the City Manager, City Attorney, and City Clerk through a
participatory conversation ( dialogue) with the City Council on their personal performance as
staff during this past year. At our work session, the Council had a variety of suggested formats
for the review, so this worksheet incorporates goal oriented and process oriented questions and
is intended to serve as a basis for conversation and not an exhaustive list of managerial
skills/knowledge/values. These questions are directed towards staff (as a basis for
conversation) so they are worded for them to answer on this sheet, but Council should feel free
to write down answers to the more objective questions (we can list what we believe were
accomplishments for example, but some questions will obviously be from the staff's subjective
point of view).
1. Looking back since your last evaluation, what have been your accomplishments?
2. What accomplishments have you been most proud of?
3. What are your biggest single frustrations?
4. What would you say is your most significant contribution to the organization?
5. What are your goals for the years to come as you continue to work for the City?
6. What do you want to accomplish with us (the Council) this coming year?
7. Where do you encounter (or anticipate encountering) difficulties in moving towards those
goals?
8. In terms of moving towards those goals, what do you find most helpful in the organization?
9. What specific help do you need from the Councilor the organization in order to move
towards your personal goals for the organization?
10. What are your own next steps?
