APPOINTMENT TO THE FOLLOWING BOARD:
JOHNSON COUNTYIIOWA CiTY AIRPORT
ZONING BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
One vacancy. Flve.year term
June 23,1992. February 26.1997
The powers and duties of the Board of Adjustment are:
1. To hear and decide appeals where it is alleged there Is an
error In any administrative action in the enforcement of the
ordinance.
2, To hear and decide on special exceptions that are
specifically provided for in the ordinance,
3. To authorize on appeal in specific cases variances from the
terms of the ordinance. Variances granted by the Board of
Adjustment may on~ be granted in the case of
'unnecessary hardship,' The hardship must be substantial,
serious, real. and of compelling force, as distinguished from
reasons of convenience, maximizatlon'of profll or caprice,
The Board meets at the call of the Chairperson. Iowa City
appointed members of boards and commissions must be eligible
electors of the City of Iowa City.
This appointment will be made at the June 23,1992, meeting
of the City Council at 7:30 p,m. in the Council Chambers.

Council on matters of interest to our community and its future, Applicants rust reside
in Iowa City,
The City Council announced Advisory Board/Commission vacancies 90 days prior to the
da te the appoi ntment will be made. Th is per i ad prov ides for a 30-day advert i sing peri ad
and a 60-day training period for new members. The training period allows new members to
become familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the advisory board/commission
before becoming a full voting member.
After a vacancy has been announced and the 30-day advertising period has expired, the

ordinances and budgets relallng to parks, playgrounds, recre.
ational centers and cultural func1ions of the chy and make such

public interest; to exercise broad responsibility for the develop.
ment of parks, recreation centers, playgrounds and cultural
facilities to selVe the City, including the creation and appoint'

The Board of Library Trustees is a semi,autonomous body of
nine persons empowered by Slale Law 10 pian, direct and
controi aU affairs of the public library. This includes determining
long.range goals of library service, adopting written policies to
govern operation of the library and employing a competent staff
to heip plan and implement the Board's service goals.
Iowa City appointed members of boards and commissions
must be eligible electors of the Cny of Iowa Chy. The Board
meels the fourth Thursday of each month at 4:00 PM.
This appointment will be made allheJune 23,1992, meeting
of Ihe City Council al 7:30 p,m. In Ihe Council Chambers.

and a 60-day training period for new members. The training period allows .new members to
