WfJereas, individual and org'anized forms of recreation and the use of
leilUre time are vital to the live. of all Americans, particularly
persons with physical, mental, emotional, and/or social limitations;
and
Ufjereas, the purpose of therapeutic recreation is to facilitate the
development, maintenance, and expression of an appropriate
leisure lifestyle; and
Ufjereas, therapeutic recreation is accomplished throug'h the provision
of prog'rams and services which auist in eliminating' barriers to
leisure, developing' leisure skills and attitudes, and optimizing'
leisure involvement; and
tmbereas, the National Therapeutic Recreation Society, a branch of the
National Recreation and Park Association, orig'inated a week of
ob.ervance to focus attention on the value of recreation and leisure
experiences for all persons, including' those with physical, mental,
emotional, and/or social limitations;
