PROCLAMATION
Whereas, our founding fathers, in order to secure the blessings of liberty
for themselves and their posterity, did ordain and establish a
Constitution for the United States of America, and
Whereas, it is of the greatest importance that all citizens fully understand
the provisions and principles contained in the Constitution in order to
effectively support, preserve and defend it against all enemies; and
Whereas, the two hundred sixteenth anniversary of the signing of the
Constitution provides an historic opportunity for all Americans to
remember the achievements of the Framers of the Constitution, and
the rights, privileges, and responsibilities afforded to us in this unique
document; and
Whereas, the independence guaranteed to American citizens, whether by
birth or naturalization, should be remembered,
Now, therefore, 1, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa
do hereby proclaim the week of September 18-24, 2006, to be
Constitution Week
in Iowa City and urge all citizens to reflect during that week on the many
benefits of our Federal Constitution and the privileges and responsibilities of
American citizenship.

PROCLAMATION
Whereas, on behalf of the citizens of Iowa City, I join Nickelodeon and the Alliance
for a Healthier Generation - joint initiative of the American Heart Association
and the William J. Clinton Foundation - in celebrating World Wide Day of Play
and in ensuring that today's generation of kids become Clne of the healthiest; and
Whereas, the rates of childhood obesity are rising at alarming rates; and
Whereas, today's generation of children could be the first to live shorter lives than
their parents, according to some experts; and
Whereas, conditions not usually seen until adulthood such as heart disease, diabetes,
elevated cholesterol and high blood pressure are becoming more prevalent in
children; and
Whereas, today's children, and adults, don't get as much physical activity as they
should; and
Whereas, nutritious diets and physical activity are an important component to living
healthy lifestyles and reducing disease; and
Whereas, overweight adolescents have a 70 percent chance of becoming overweight
or obese adults.
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby
proclaim September 30, 2006 to be
World Wide Day of Play
in Iowa City, Iowa and urge youth and families to Go Healthy by engaging in healthy
behaviors such as walking, playing games .. ng, and cooking h alt y meals.
