The City Council announced Advisory Board/Corrrnission vacancies 90 days prior to the
date the appointment will be made. This period provides for a 30-day advertising period
and a 60-day training period for new members. The training period allows new members to
become familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the advisory board/corrrnission
before becoming a full voting member.
After a vacancy has been announced and the 30-day advertising period has expired, the
Council reviews all applications during the informal w.ork session. The appointment is
announced at the next formal Council meeting. Appointees serve as unpaid volunteers.
Council prefers that all applications must be submitted to the City Clerk no later

Duties of the Historic Preservation Commission Include:
conducting studies for the Identification and desi9nation of His-
toric Districts; reviewing and acting upon all applications for
Cert~lcate of Appropriateness; cooperating wllh property owners
and city agencies regarding remedy of dangerous conditions;
furthering the efforts of historic preservation In the City by mak-
ing recommendations on preservation Issues, when appropriate,
by encouraging the protection and enhancement of structures
with historical, archllectural or cullural value, and by encourag-
Ing persons and organizations to become Involved In preserva.
tion ectlvities. '
This Commission meets the second Tuesday of each month
at 7:30 p.m. Iowa City appointed members of boards and com.
missions must be eligible electors of the Clly of Iowa City.
These appointments will be made at the February 23, 1993,
meeting of the City Council at 7:30 p,m, In the Council Cham.

Individuals serving on Boards/Corrmissions play an important role in advising the
Council on matters of interest to our corrmunity and its future. Applicants must reside
in Iowa City.
The City Council announced Advisory Board/Corrmission vacancies 90 days prior to the
date the appointment will be made. This period provides for a 30-day advertisinG period
and a 60-day training periOd for new members. The training period allows new members to
become familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the advisory board/cofTl11ission
before becoming a full voting member.
After a vacancy has been announced and the 30-day advertising period has expired, the
Council reviews all applications during the informal work session. The appointment is
announced at the next formal Council meeting. Appointees serve as unpaid volunteers.
Council prefers that all applications must be submitted to the City Clerk no later
