Dberell~, on January 21, 1839, the Iowa Territorial Legislature in
. session at the tempora!y capitol in Burlington, elected three of its
members and charged them to select a 'permanent site for the
Territorial Capitol of Iowa, for the capitol city, to be named Iowa
City, and
Dberell~, Chauncl!}' Swan of DubulJl!e County, John Ronalds of Louisa
County, and l~oberl Ralston 01: Des Moines County were the three
legislators selected by ballot, and
.erell~, on May 4, 1839, Chauncey Swan, as chairman of the
Commission, drove the stake officially marking the site of the
permanent territorial capitol building1 and the City of Iowa City;
and Swan was appointed SUp'erintendent of public Buildings for
the new capitol hcilding by Governor Robert Lucas,

Dbml1~, the first Take Our Daughters to Work Day on April 28,
1994, was such an overwhelming success, and
Dbtrel1~, for the second annual event, organizers expect more than 1.5
million school.age girls to enter the work force when companies
nationwide will again open their doors to employees' daughters,
nieces and neighbors, as well as groups of girls from local schools,
and
mmtbtrel1~, this special day was created by The Ms. Foundation for
Women to boost school.age girls' confide~ce by introducing them
to potential careers and successful female role models, and
Dbml1~, the insight girls gained from going to work last year is
unparalleled by anything they could have picked up from dinner
table conversation about a parent's clay at the office or reading
about a career in a textbook, and
