mberell~, members of the Kosai Cultural Delegation from Kosai City,
Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, are visiting Iowa City to offer a program
of dance, art, crafts, perlonnance and music, entitled, "Flowers of An
, Autumn Harvest - Arts Close to the Earth in Iowa and Yamanashi," and
.berell~, this delegation has come to our country to promote understancling
and respect for each other's customs and way of life-that is, our
traditions and cultures, which are fundamental to the peace and
prosperity of the human race; and
.berell~, in response to this generous offering, mUSICIans, artists,
craftspersons and perlonners from the Iowa City Area, and from the
nearby Midwest, will present reciprocal offerings as a cultural exchange,
and
.berell~, many diverse elements of the Iowa City Community, the State of
Iowa, as well as The University of Iowa, have cooperated to make this
visit possible, and
.berell~, we wish to welcome this delegation to Iowa City, and to gratefully
acknowledge their gifts of art and friendship,

social studies educators of the Iowa City Community School
District, and in conjunction with the National Geographic Society
and the Geographic Alliance of Iowa, are celebrating a special week
with the theme of "Geography: Keeping Wilderness in Sight"; and
_bereas" this theme was chosen to commemorate the 30th anniversary
of legislation which established the National Wilderness
Preservation System, and
l1lbeteas, the purpose of this special week is to draw renewed attention
to the critical themes, skills, and geographic education, and to
promote appropriate activities in the community at large, and

Wednesday, November 9,1994, horn 10:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.;

important part of our lifelong learning process; and

BbereRs, Heritage Trees of Iowa City is a joint effort by three of the city's
, oldest neigh1orhoods -- Longfellow, Northside, and Goosetown .-
Project GREEN and the City of Iowa City, and
mbeteRs, Heritage Trees exists to identify the unique character, condition,
and heritage of the urban forest in the oldest parts of the city, to
increase awareneSS of the forest, and to create a master plan to preserve
and, when necessary, to replace Iowa City's heritage trees, and
BuereRS, Heritage Trees, with funding from the Iowa Department of Natural
Resources Forestry Division and the USDA Forest Service, recently
completed an inventory of over 5,000 trees located on public property
in Oakland Cemetery, Goosetown, Northside, and Longfellow
neighborhoods, and
BuereRS, the tree inventory was completed with the help of approximately
135 volunteers who contributed over 2,000 hours of their time, and
BueteRS, the Heritage Tree inventory could not have been possible without
the special contributions of Nancy Seiberling of Project GREEN,
Arborist Leon Lyvers, and Goosetowner Kate Klaus,
