seTV GROUP DISCUSSION - MULLER
Muller opened the discussion by saying that the Commission needed to thin~
about the parameters under which SCTV operates, He said the purpose of SCTV
as the Commission sees it needs to be established, as they are the ones
responsible for oversight and approval of policy at the Center,
Engen said the, idea of a committee suggested at the last meeting is a good idea.
He said within certain guidelines, SCTV needs a certain amount of autonomy
and the Commillee can work on that.
Anciaux said SCTV is a very important pari of the Center, that the goal of more
publicity was being accomplished, and that she felt the dedicated volunteers
need a certain amount of autonomy and freedom so that they can also have
some fun, She was appreciative that the TV volunteers continue to be so
dedicated and willing to spend as much time as they do.
Miller said she had attended the Council of Elders meeting and the topic was
discussed, They talked about SCTV needing some guidelines and that if they do
programs for other agencies who provide services, the Center as a service
provider should also be identified,
Muller recognized Ballantyne
of their requests to everyone.
thanked her,
who distributed copies of the SCTV's explanation
She then read it. (See attached). Muller
Hackman said she would like to answer point #1 in the Septemher SCC minutes
which read: 'That SCl'V should have gone to Fox or Rogusky before coming to
the Commission',' She said that she, a member of SCTV, had conceived of,
filmed, and finished the documentary "Remaining In Place', She said she
thought of it as outreach to the community, explaining all of the services
provided in Johnson County by Case Management to help seniors remain in
their own homes as long as possible, She said the staff hail complimented her
on the fine quality of her project. She said she was told that she should not
have used SCTV equipment and that she should have gone to PATV because the
tape was not about the Senior Center. She said she did mention SCTV in the
opening and closing credits, She said this concept was difficult for her as she
sees her job providing information about services for seniors to be a
legitimate one,
Mnller said this hrings np a new qnestion uot addressed betilre, Is SCTV for
people who attend Ihe Center, the homehound, and the community at large?
