ENGEN Engen said that since he was a goal setter, he found this issue interesting, He said that the seclion nn askiug constituents for suggestions is how he views his job as a Commissioner, He said all Commissioners should be approachable, encourage participants to voice their views, and be seen as interested in their OpiniOnS, He said he had received phone calls at home as he was sure the others had also, He believes that participants do not hesitate to tell him their views as he is visible at the Center, He said this is important if Goal 5 . to create a sense of community- is to be mel. MINUTES - sec I'AGE 2 seTV GROUP DISCUSSION - MULLER Muller opened the discussion by saying that the Commission needed to thin~ about the parameters under which SCTV operates, He said the purpose of SCTV as the Commission sees it needs to be established, as they are the ones responsible for oversight and approval of policy at the Center, Engen said the, idea of a committee suggested at the last meeting is a good idea. He said within certain guidelines, SCTV needs a certain amount of autonomy and the Commillee can work on that. Anciaux said SCTV is a very important pari of the Center, that the goal of more publicity was being accomplished, and that she felt the dedicated volunteers need a certain amount of autonomy and freedom so that they can also have some fun, She was appreciative that the TV volunteers continue to be so dedicated and willing to spend as much time as they do. Miller said she had attended the Council of Elders meeting and the topic was discussed, They talked about SCTV needing some guidelines and that if they do programs for other agencies who provide services, the Center as a service provider should also be identified, Muller recognized Ballantyne of their requests to everyone. thanked her, who distributed copies of the SCTV's explanation She then read it. Muller Hackman said she would like to answer point #1 in the Septemher SCC minutes which read: 'That SCl'V should have gone to Fox or Rogusky before coming to the Commission',' She said that she, a member of SCTV, had conceived of, filmed, and finished the documentary "Remaining In Place', She said she thought of it as outreach to the community, explaining all of the services provided in Johnson County by Case Management to help seniors remain in their own homes as long as possible, She said the staff hail complimented her on the fine quality of her project. She said she was told that she should not have used SCTV equipment and that she should have gone to PATV because the tape was not about the Senior Center. Shannon spoke about how Rick Amundson and Nouri, work study students. had liked and supported the 'Mature Focus' concept of' a TV magazine made up of 10-15 minute segments of happenings of interest to seniors, , '! He said Pat White had written a letter expressing his disappointment that the Center did not make a presentation, Muller said he felt his explanation of why they did not was a good one and his feeling is that tbe Task Force bas a duty to do long range planning betore anytbing can be settled. Muller said he was interested in tbe Senior Center doing a Cbamber of Commerce PM, He said when be called them, they told him they were booked for a year and a half. He asked them to call if anyone cancdled. '- of the Ambassadors concluded tbat the tbe need to update :1 He said a presentation on the Center had been made by one to tbe noon Kiwanis.
