A few of my directly related experiences are:
1.was married to home builder for 10 years helping with bids, purchasing, estimates, contracts, design, sales, and even some
miscellaneous builder labor.
2. Divorced mother with two children and all the struggles that can cause, including trying to find affordable housing.
3. 4 years at college, single with my two children, living in the cheap simple Quonset married student housing at UNI.
4. Living at poverty level since graduation from UNI in 1969: temporary jobs, low paid jobs, low cost housing, subsidized housi.,
5. Volunteer work on Mother's for Adequate Welfare, Legal Aid Board member, Neighborhood Associations, Community
Action Board Member, Neighborhood Development board member, Johnson County Task Force on Aging, Iowa City
Homeless Coordinating Board.
6. I have lived in and appreciate mobile homes and good mobile home courts.
WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT KNOWLEDGE OF THIS ADVISORY BOARD?
I have a strong interest in housing for low income people. I read the Housing Commission minutes on line and pay attention to
other housing issues brought before the City Council and in the community. As far as I know, there are no low income or older
members on the Housing Commission.
Misrepresentations on this application will constitute Just cause for removal of an appointee,
If you fail to answer all the questions, Council may not consider your application.

WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS DO YOU FEEL YOU CAN MAKE TO THIS ADVISORY BOARD (OR STATE REASON FOR
APPLYING)?
not only have lived through many of the struggles related to low cost housing, I also try to keep well informed on housing
issues, not just in the Iowa City area. I think the Housing Commission needs to have at least one member from the lower class.
I pay close attention to poverty issues, including elderly poor people. I also pay close attention to costs and full disclosure of
public information.
POTENTIAL CONFLICTS OF INTEREST
Please identify any potential conflicts between membership on the advisory board and your personal interests,
including financial interests and your duties to an employer. - ~ ,...-.-.'
In particular, if you are applying to be a member of a board or commission which makes recommendations to
the City Council about the allocation of City funds, please list any present affiliations you have with agenCies
that apply for funding from the City. "Affiliation" includes being a board member or employee of the agency.
Other types of affiliations must be examined on a case by case basis by the City Attorney's office.
You should also know that Section 362.5 of the Code of Iowa generally prohibits, with certain important
exceptions, a member of a city Board or Commission from having an interest in a city contract. A copy of
Section 362.5 is attached (see page 7).
If you are uncertain whether a potential conflict of interest exists or have questions about Section 362.5 of the
Code of Iowa, please contact the City Attorney's office at 356-5030.
I sure hope that being very interested in the welfare and housing needs of poor people would not be considered lj:SpI1flict of
interest for this Commission. If it is, please clearly tell me so in writing. 9 0-

If you have expertise in construction or finance, please describe your experience and/or training.
As I mentioned in the beginning section, I had 10 years of experience wor1<ing with my husband who buitt very nice cape
cod file houses. I handled sub-contractor bids and selection, got the estimates for and selected materials, did most ot the
design and layout selections, handled the open houses and advertising, all of the office record keeping and contract wor1<.
Though this experience was in my past, n gave me good insight into the building industry.
One of my temporary jobs was at a very large apartment complex in downtown Minneapolis. I handled the HUD
applications, HUD reports, and interviews with the applicants.
