PROCLAMATION
Whereas, DANCE, both as an art form and a form of recreation, has existed
since the beginning of humankind; and
Whereas, DANCE is an integral part of culture and society; and
Whereas, DANCE, in its varied forms, enhances the vibrancy of our region; and
Whereas, DANCE provides an opportunity for fun, exercise, entertainment, and
companionship, for people of all ages; and
Whereas DANCE makes a significant contribution to our community's quality
of life and festivals bring hundreds of visitors to our community each year;
and
Whereas, DANCE. creates knowledge, goodwill, and connections among
people; and
Whereas, in April dancers from around the World will meet in Iowa City and
celebrate DANCE by providing workshops and classes, by dancing with
Iowa City schoolchildren, and by offering performances and events
throughout the Iowa City/Coralville area for people of all ages.
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim the week of April 8 through April 15, 2007, to be
Dance Festival Week
in Iowa City, and encourage Iowans to DANCE!

The University of Iowa Department of Dance has done it again!
Assistant Professor Jennifer Kayle's "at the receding edges" and MFA
graduate candidate Ed Rice's "A Solo Surrounded" were chosen by the
adjudicators of the 2007 American College Dance Festival's North Central
Regional Conference for the final Gala Concert performance which will
take
place tomorrow night, Tuesday March 20th, at the University of Milwaukee
Peck School of the Arts Mainstage Theater. In Iowa City, Kayle's dance
was

originally performed as part of the 2006 Dance Gala at Hancher
Auditorium
and Ed Rice's solo was premiered on the program of the 2006 "Five Alive"
Graduate Thesis concert at Space Place Theater.
Dance departments from 25 mid-western institutions were in attendance at
the
conference and a total of 40 dances were presented for adjudication.
University of Iowa undergraduate student Tara Leaderbrand's "Laboring
Transitions" was also performed at the festival's Informal Concert.
UI Dancers for Kayle's "at the receding edges" included Rachel Barger,
Julius Carter, Keera Herbst, Alison Riazi, Ed Rice, Anna Adams Stark,
Jackie
Stewart and Aya Wilson.
UI Dancers for Leaderbrand's "Laboring Transitions" included Keera
Herbst,
Rachel Wise, Kathleen Pryzwara, Jenna Ely and Tiffany Cheng.
