PROCLAMATION
Whereas, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity builds local partnerships between Iow-
income working families and Iowa communities to build simple, decent and
affordable housing;
Whereas, these partnerships build ~ore than homes, they build hope and community,
serving those less fortunate while stimulating economic development;
Whereas, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity has been building in Iowa since 1984
and has constructed 44 homes in eastern Iowa;
Whereas, the current Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity projects in Iowa City
exemplify both the need for affordable housing in area and the means by which a
caring community can address that need;
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor ofIowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim
the week of April 9, 2007 as
IOWA VALLEY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
BUILDS IOWA CITY HOMES WEEK
and urge local residents to commit their resources to this unique philanthropy that
plants the seeds of hope for working families to build a brighter future.

Whereas, the profession of Architecture in Iowa strives to protect the
public's health, safety, and well being, and the Architecture of Iowa is
nationally known for its quality of design; and
Whereas, the Architecture of Iowa reflects, promotes, and celebrates the
cultural heritage and values of the state; and
Whereas, the profession of Architecture in Iowa is working to build a
better future for the state through well- planned, well-designed buildings and
communities that embrace principles of livability and sustainability; and
Whereas, the American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter, is
celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Institute's founding in New York on
April 15, 1857, and as part of that celebration is seeking to engage Iowa
communities in creating healthier, safer, and more dynamic places to live,
work and play;
Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa
do hereby proclaim the month of April 2007 to be
Architecture Month
in the City ofIowa City, in celebration of the contributions of Architects and
in recognition of the American Institute of Architects' 150th anniversary.

WHEREAS, April 11, 2007 marks the 39th anniversary ofthe passage of
the U.S. Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, as
amended, which enunciates a national policy of Fair Housing without regard
to race, color, creed, national origin, sex, familial status, and handicap, and
encourages fair housing opportunities for all citizens; and
WHEREAS, The Fair Housing Ambassadors as well as Iowa City Area
Association ofREALTORS@, are committed to highlight the Fair Housing
Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968, by continuing to address
discrimination in our community, to support programs that will educate the
public about the right to equal housing opportunities, and to plan partnership
efforts with other organizations to help assure every American of their right
to fair housing.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa
City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim April 2007, as
Fair Housing Month
which begins a year-long commemoration of the U.S. Fair Housing Law in
Iowa City and urge all citizens to wholeheartedly recognize this celebration
throughout the year.
