HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-04-03 Proclamation [f'# r City of Iowa City PROCLAMATION Whereas, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity builds local partnerships between Iow- income working families and Iowa communities to build simple, decent and affordable housing; Whereas, these partnerships build ~ore than homes, they build hope and community, serving those less fortunate while stimulating economic development; Whereas, Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity has been building in Iowa since 1984 and has constructed 44 homes in eastern Iowa; Whereas, the current Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity projects in Iowa City exemplify both the need for affordable housing in area and the means by which a caring community can address that need; Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor ofIowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the week of April 9, 2007 as IOWA VALLEY HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILDS IOWA CITY HOMES WEEK and urge local residents to commit their resources to this unique philanthropy that plants the seeds of hope for working families to build a brighter future. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City ofIowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim April 2007, as Fair Housing Month which begins a year-long commemoration of the U.S. Fair Housing Law in Iowa City and urge all citizens to wholeheartedly recognize this celebration throughout the year.
