City Employees present to receive their service awards included: Carol Schwaigert. 10 yrs., Robert Stika, 10 yrs., Kenneth Stock, 7.5 yrs., & Richard Lumsden, 25 yrs. Plan map and text. Motion carried S3S unanimously, 5/0, Neuhauser and Roberts absent. Public Hearing was held on the applications presented by Super Cab Co. E Yellow Checker Cab Co., Ralph Oxford, owner, for certificates of necessity for 17 taxicabs. Oxford appeared commenting that he would apply for 7 more certificates at a S 3 6 later date. City Clerk Stolfus advised that the applications were in order. Moved by deProsse, seconded by Perret, to move the appointments of Tom Wiegman, 3 -yr. term; Michele Fisher, 2 -yr. term; R Larry Eckholt, 1 -yr. term, to the Governor Lucas Sq. Comm. Motion carried unanimously, 5/0, Neuhauser E S3 7 Roberts absent. councilman Erdahl commended the Community Development Dept. on their work on the Comp. Plan, noting the long hours that it has taken. Councilman Perret commented on the beginning of the construction of the first bus shelter, at the corner of Washington & Clinton, and stated that he is looking forward to construction of more shelters. Councilman Balmer questioned if the Univ. was being contacted re urging the employees of the Jefferson Bldg. to use the buses instead of parkiny downtown all day. City Mgr. Berlin pointed out several discussions had been held with the Downtown Assoc. and the Chamber of Commerce Bd. Staff is working on alternatives ,, will bring them to Council consideration. He also advised that a report on the U -Smash -Em Bldg. will be coming from the Comm. Dev. Dept. later; they are concentratiny on the Comp. Plan now. $150,000 has been budgeted in capital improvements, available 7/1/78. S3 City htgr. Berlin relayed Councilwoman Neuhauser's request for approval of a trip to Washington, D.C. where she had been invited to the White House to hear the President's Urban Policy message, as part of the Task Force of the Natl. League of Cities, with the opportunity to respond the next day. After discussion, the Mayor advised that the majority of the Councilmembers did not wish to fund this trip. S3 i City Atty. John Hayek stated that he wished to recognize publicly the work of Asst. City Atty. Tony Kushnir who has been honored by the Natl. Institute of Mon. Law Officers by having his article on Mon.
