29, 1978, has been designated as Secretaries Week, and
WHEREAS, in keeping with best tradition of their profession,
secretaries are accepting vital responsibilities and are
performing important roles in commerce, industry, and
government, and
WHEREAS, the efforts of these professionals and their many contri-
butions to the nation's progress are significant, and
WHEREAS, to recognize the secretaries now doing their jobs diligently
and to encourage others to enter this worthy career, it is

WHEREAS, we especially recognize on Arbor Day that trees are
essential to man's well-being and that the quality of
our environment can be most humanized by the use of more
trees in the landscape, and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day activities provide new awareness to the importance
of planting trees for beauty, for shade, for conservation, and
for many other purposes beneficial to the environment, and
WHEREAS, it is hoped that the future will see the creation of more
natural environment with the use of trees so that a more
totally good living experience can be accomplished throughout
our cities, towns, and countryside, and
WHEREAS, the observance of Arbor Day and Arbor Week has long been
characterized by the planting and preservation of trees and
shrubs in an endeavor to beautify and protect our public and
private lands, to prevent erosion and aid in the conservation
of soil and water,
