HomeMy WebLinkAbout2007-10-02 Proclamation .\t~ ~ City of Iowa City Proclamation f~, ~.. ~ N'l'.<)}.$ \ WHEREAS, the City of Iowa City is committed to ensuring the safety and security of all those living in and visiting our city; and WHEREAS, fire is a serious public safety concern both locally and nationally, and homes are the locations where people are at greatest risk from fire; and WHEREAS, the nonprofit National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) has documented through its research that home fires killed 3,030 people in the U.S. in 2005 - roughly eight people every day; and WHEREAS, Iowa City's first responders are dedicated to reducing the occurrence of home fires and home fire injuries through prevention and protection education; and WHEREAS, Iowa City's residents are responsive to public education measures and are able to take personal steps to increase their safety from fire; and WHEREAS, residents who have planned and practiced a home fire escape plan are more prepared and will therefore be more likely to survive a fire; and WHEREAS, the 2007 Fire Prevention Week theme, "It's Fire Prevention Week - Practice Your Escape Plan!", effectively serves to remind us all of the simple actions we can take to stay safer from fire during Fire Prevention Week and year-round. THEREFORE, I Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa do hereby proclaim October 7-13,2007 as Fire Prevention Week throughout this city, and I urge all the people of Iowa City to heed the important safety messages of Fire Prevention Week 2007, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Iowa City's fire and emergency services. Mayor Signed in Iowa City Iowa, this 2rd day of October 2007 City of Iowa City PROCLAMATION Whereas, quality health care is an important concern of the citizens of Iowa City; and Whereas, affordable and accessible medical care is essential for the well-being of all citizens; and Whereas, physician assistants are medically trained professionals who provide comprehensive health care services and quality medical care to millions of Americans throughout this great country; and Whereas, physician assistants nationwide have been recognized by the U.S. Surgeon General as national proponents of preventive health care and can improve patient access to health care services; and Whereas, physician assistants care for patients of all ages in rural towns, urban communities, and in the uniformed services; and Whereas, the physician assistant profession continues to grow in numbers and in public respect; and Whereas, physician assistants increasingly are being recognized as important members of the health care delivery team, working closely with their supervising physicians to enhance the quality of medical care in the United States and abroad; and Whereas, physician assistants around this country and in our great state will celebrate October 6-12 as National PA Week; and Whereas, the physician assistants in Iowa City deserve our heartfelt thanks for the medical care they provide to patients throughout the year, Now, therefore, I, Ross Wilburn, Mayor of the City oflowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim October 6-12,2007, as NATIONAL PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT WEEK and extend my sincere thanks to the physician assistant profession for its dedication to Iowa City and my best wishes for many more years of outstanding service.
