HomeMy WebLinkAbout1978-12-19 Public Hearing1_L -;LD GY JORM MICROLA4 • cEur,l+ NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING I RE: The purchase of a maximum of eight (8) new 45 -passenger diesel powered buses, one (1) 127passenger lift -equipped bus, and two (2) 14 - passenger vans by the City of Iowa City through an Urban Mass Transporta- Grant. I. Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the City. Council of Iowa City, Iowa at the Iowa City Civic Center, 410 East Wash- ington, Iowa City, Iowa 52240. The hearing is Set.}01' 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 19, 1978, for the purpose of considering the project for which assistance is being sought from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration, pursuant to the Urban Mass Transportation Act of 1964, as amended, generally described as follows: A. Description of Project 1. The City of Iowa City is applying for grant assistance funds from the U.S. Urban Mass Transportation Administration to purchase the following: a. Eight (8) new 45 -passenger diesel powered transit buses. Three (3) will be used by Iowa City Transit, two (2) will be used by Coralville Transit, and three (3) will be used by the University of Iowa Cambus. b. One (1) new 12 passenger bus with lift equipment will be used by the University of.Iowa Cambus. c. Two (2) new 14 -passenger vans. Federal Grant Request $719,488 Local Contribution $179,872 Total estimated project cost $899,360 3. The local contribution will be from the following sources: City of Iowa City $ 63,840 City of Coralville $ 42,560 Johnson county $ 4,032 University of Iowa $ 69,440 AL $179,872 B. Relocation No persons, families or businesses will be displaced by this pro- ject. ' C. Environment This project is considered to have a favorable impact on the environment. New buses with quieter and more efficiently running engines, and emihsion control equipment will result is an actual reduction of noise and exhaust emission levels now being produced with older diesel -powered buses to be replaced. D. Comprehensive planning This project is in conformance with comprehensive land -use and transportation planning in the Iowa City-Coralville urban area and in Johnson County. The bus will be lift -equipped to provide continued service for the elderly and j handicapped with specialized mobility or accessibility needs. They will replace vehicles that currently provide demand -responsive ser- vice to and from hospital/medical clinics, work, schools, shopping facilities, congregate meal centers, and social/recreational facilities. I. II. At the hearing, the City Council of Iowa City will afford an opportunity for interested persons or agencies to be heard with respect to the social, economic and environmental aspects of the project. Interested persons may submit, orally or in writing, evidence and recommendations with respect,to said project. III. A copy of the application for a Federal Grant for the proposed project, together with an environmentalanalysis and the transit development plan for the area, is currently available for public inspection at the City of Iowa City Clerk's Office, Iowa City Civic Center, 410 :East Washington, Iowa City, Iowa 52240.
