PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, for 32 years Mike Moran has served the community of Iowa City in the
tradition of the best of public servants: with honesty, reliability, and a strong customer
service ethic; and
WHEREAS, in his roles as Recreation Superintendent and Director of Parks and
Recreation, Mike has kept the children of Iowa City smiling, the farmers marketing, and
all of us enjoying opportunities to live happier and healthier lives; and
WHEREAS, as Director, Mike has overseen many important community projects,
including the creation of the tremendously popular Terry Trueblood Recreation Area, the
purchase and renovation of the Ned Ashton House, and more trails than we can keep track
of; and
WHEREAS, if you have seen a bad call from an official in a local high school
football game, I assure you it was not Mike; and
WHEREAS, Mike has demonstrated his loyalty, resilience, and unwavering hope
through the years by enduring five (yes, FIVE) Denver Broncos Super Bowl losses with a
combined losing score of 206-58 (thank goodness for Terrell Davis); and
WHEREAS, though Mike has lived and attended college in Colorado, his trips to
Denver have been quite frequent in recent years and we think it best not to speculate why;
and
WHEREAS, in our City's parks, our classrooms, and on the sidelines, through his
roles as an employee, instructor, and parent, Mike has worked tirelessly to improve the
exceptional quality of life in our community.
NOW THEREFORE, I, Matthew J. Hayek, Mayor of Iowa City, hereby declare
September 25, 2015 as
Mike Moran Day
in Iowa City in recognition of Mike's long-term dedication and commitment to our
community. Mike, thank you for your service - we will miss you.
