WHEREAS: Elementary -age children will create posters centering around the theme cf energy conservation and energy alternatives to be displayed in local shopping centers. WHEREAS: Energy conservation is a viable energy source and must play a role in the development of governmentalenergy policies. WHEREAS: Energy conservation is -a means of promoting the local economy by increasing business for weatherizatLon material's retailers,., contractors„ insulators, window companies, nursery - en „ etc., and through the snending of saved energy dollars on local products and services. WHEREAS: Energy is�the lifeblood of modern societies and will remain so, far into,the future. It behooves us to -raise our children with a familiarity and awareness of this essentialcomponent of our lives. WHEREAS: Artistic expression is and willl continue to,be a means.of fostering the creative abilities of our children, abilities they may well one day turn upon the problems of energy conservation and the development of energy alternatives. THEREFORE: Be it so+proclaimed the week of Febuary 1-7 Energy Conservation Week in the City of Iowa City.
