History Month and is recognized as such through-
out the cnuntry, and
the intent of this annual observance is to
acknowledge the numerous contributions which
Black Americans have made to the growth of
American society, and
117h a r� a s , it is to our benefit to uncover the rich and
varied past of Black Americans, for in recognizing
their strnegths and talents we create pride and
unity between people of all races,

the week of February 7-13, 1988, as National Voca-
tional Education Meek to heighten community aware-
ness of the importance Of vocational education in
learning business knowledge and skills, technnlOgy
training and internship training, and

itg school District, the Business ¢echnnlugg Depart-
ment, and the Industrial ¢echnaingg Department has a
major goal to educate and train business -oriented and
technaingg-oriented students in their development of
Occupational skills in order to become self-sufficient
and successful in life, and

tional Advisory Committee recognize student partici-
pation and worksite supervisors for Outstanding per-
formance during the academic gear for successful
training, awards to he given at the annual Employee-
Emplager Banquet in the spring,

PROCLAM;ITION
WHEREAS: The Resources and Conservation Commission, in conjunction
with the Iowa City Community School District,.. is sponsoring
Energy Conservation 'Week in all local elementary schools to
promote the ideas of energy conservation and energy alternatives
in school-age children.
WHEREAS: Elementary -age children will create posters centering around
the theme cf energy conservation and energy alternatives
to be displayed in local shopping centers.
WHEREAS: Energy conservation is a viable energy source and must play
a role in the development of governmentalenergy policies.
WHEREAS: Energy conservation is -a means of promoting the local
economy by increasing business for weatherizatLon material's
retailers,., contractors„ insulators, window companies, nursery -
en „ etc., and through the snending of saved energy dollars
on local products and services.
WHEREAS: Energy is�the lifeblood of modern societies and will remain so,
far into,the future. It behooves us to -raise our children
with a familiarity and awareness of this essentialcomponent
of our lives.
WHEREAS: Artistic expression is and willl continue to,be a means.of
fostering the creative abilities of our children, abilities
they may well one day turn upon the problems of energy
conservation and the development of energy alternatives.
THEREFORE: Be it so+proclaimed the week of Febuary 1-7 Energy Conservation
Week in the City of Iowa City.
