U)h e r e a s , Iowa City has an international populace, rich in
cultural diversity living in harmony and is known
world-wide to promote the arts, world peace and
higher learning, and
Whereas , the culture and spiritual traditions of Chet
are dedicated to world peace and compassion
for all living beings, and
Whereas , the monks of Drepung-Laseling Manasterg will come
to Iowa City to share their rich cultural and
spiritual heritage with the people of Iowa City,
and
Where a s , their countrymen in Cibet suffer intolerably
under foreign military occupation, and
Whereas , the monks of Drepung-Loseling ftnesterg have
made great efforts to preserve the rich cultural
and spiritual traditions of Cibet while enduring
with great fortitude the hardships of the refugee
existence, and
Wh a re a s , their work and devotion to world peace benefit
all people, and
Whe re a s , the monks of the Drepung-Loseling Monastery have
chosen to make the final appearance of their
western tour in lama City,
