IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-5000 P R 0 C C A M is +E Z 0 N 0h e r e a s , appraximately 600 athletes from the State of Iowa will be coming to Iowa City an Friday and Saturday, March 18 and 19, 1988, to take part in the Iowa Special Olympirs State Basket - hall and Gymnastics ¢ournament, and lAih e r e a s , these athletes have worked hard in order to qualify for the State competition, and all are first place winners in area competition, and 31)h e r e a s , to make this event possible, local businesses, organizations, ¢he University of Iowa, a 15 - member steering committee, and over 300 uelun- beers from Iama City and surrounding communities have given time, food, muneg and other necessities, and Whereas , we want to commend the participants in the Special Olympics since they are all champions because theg have made the extra effort to became involved and to be their best, and we also want to commend the people whose efforts have made this event possible, NOW, I, John McDunald, Mayer of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim March 19, 1988, as 7COWA %PECXAC OCUMPZC.5 DAM in Iowa Citg and encourage the entire community to gather at the Field House an March 19 to share the athletes' spirit of accomplishment.
