honor American volunteers who give so freely
Of themselves in the service of others, and
iUlh a r,e a s , volunteerism has been an integral part of our
American wag of Iife since our earliest bags
and is vital to the continued well-being of our
great $tate and Nation, and
3111-t,e r,e a s , through the dedicated work of hundreds of volun-
teers and volunteer agencies, people throughout
the City, the Count$, the Rate and the Nation
are being helped to help themselves, and
our communities, our states and our nation will
benefit as more and more people bestow the price-
Iess gift that comes onlg when people give of
themselves, and
3Dh e r e a s , the week of April 17 - 24, 1988, is an opportune
time to honor the dedicated men and women of
these volunteer organizations,

crime each year, and
Wlt e r e a s , victims of crime and their families and friends
often suffer grave financial, physical and psy-
chological lasses, and
3JJh a re a s , all citizens deserue to be treated with dignity,
compassion, and justice in times of distress,
and
313h e r e a s , historically, such treatment has nab been afforded
to all victims of crime, and
3JVh areas , many fellow citizens, in their work and volunteer
activities with the Domestic violence Project,
the nape Victim AbuacacH Program, United Action
for ijouth, Lutheran Social Services, Mothers
Against Drunk Driving, and within the criminal
justice system itself, are laboring to bring
dignity, justice and compassion ba those of our
friends, relatives, and neighbors who fall victim
to crime,

to attend the statewide conference, "Caping with
Violent Crime: the 1988 Iowa Crime victims Con-
ference". Survivors of homicide victims are
especially invited to attend the conference which
is sponsored bg the Iowa Organization for victim
v Assistance and Polk County victim Services and will
be held at the Hotel %avert' in Des (Baines an April
28 and 29.

Alpha Phi Omega National Coed Service Fraternitg
on campus of ¢he Universitg of Iowa has been
performing valuable service for over four years
since the reinstatement of the chapter and fortg-
two years prior to reinstatement, and
)"he re a s , it has been suggested that a bag be dedicated to
encourage all of our citizens to participate in
activities which would benefit the general wel-
fare of our societg, and
