Ronald Reagan signed an June 20, 1985, Public
Law 99-54 recognizing the Pause for the Pledge
of Allegiance as part of National Flag Dag

a democracg in a republic and stands for our
countrg's elevation to freedom, to the rule of all,
and to equal rights for all,

place from June 14 through July 18, 1988,
when 200 citizens of the Soviet union will
join 200 Americans for a walk which will
touch three areas of the United States -
the East Coast, the Midwest, and the lest
Coast, and

in the Iowa City-Coralville area an July 3
and 4, 1988, and
11)he re a s , this visit will give us a unique apportunity.
to became acquainted with citizens of the
Soviet Union, to accept our differences and
to celebrate our similarities, and to join
forces in the common cause of bringing peace
to our earth, and
Whereas , an behalf of the Cibg Council and the citizens
of Iowa City, I want to extend a most sincere
welcome to the participants of the peace Walk,
parbicularly to the guests from the Soviet
Union. I invite them to join us in our annual
celebration of our countrg's independence,
