AN ORDIN4NE ESTABLISHING THE NOM SIDE RESIDENTIAL AREA AS AN IOWA CITY HISTORIC PRESERVATION U.L DISTRICT, SAID DISTRICT SHCONSTM E AN OVERLAY ZONE OF THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF IOWA CITY. WHEREAS, settlement of the North Side Residential Historic District described below dates back to the Original Tan Plat of 1839 and, aWQ other things, the area is ratable for its terraced hetes and brick paved streets; and WEREAS, due to its proximity to the Lhiversity of Iowa, many key University figures have lived in this area; and WEREAS, the City Council finds that the City's historic, architectural and cultural heritage should be safeguarded through the protection, enhancement and perpetuation of a historic district; and FFERFAS, the City Council firds the Forth Side Residential Historic District to possess properties which are significant to the history, architecture and culture of Ione City; and Mum. after extensive public meetings and i hearings, many residents of the area have dEm nr strated their support for establishment of the area as an historic district. NOW, THEMORE, BE IT ORD'IIN:D BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IOWA CITY, IOWA, THAT:, SECTION I.
