from some farm of handicap. Eighty
percent of Americans will experience
some disabilitg in their lifetime. that
makes it necessary for us bn understand
and appreciate both the harriers they
must surmount and the contributions
that theg can make to our society, and
many disabled people face financial,
cultural and phgsical barriers because
of a lack Of public understanding of
their needs. 09 must become more aware
of the barriers that prevent or inhibit
so many of our fellow Americans from
participating fully in the life of our
sucietg, and haw much more they could
contribute if those Obstacles were
removed, and
this can begin with recognizing the nut -
standing achievements of many disabled
citizens. Let us resolve to act posi-
tivelg toward those wha must cope with
the challenge of phgsical handicaps. Ve
have much to gain if they are able to
live up to their full potential,
