THE CITY COUNCIL OF IOWA CITY
IS CONSIDERING AN APPOINTMENT
TO THE FOLLOWING COMMISSION:
BROADBAND TELECOMMUNICATIONS COMMISSION
One vacancy - Three-year term
March 13, 1986 - March 13, 1989
The duties of the Broadband Telecommunications
Commission include serving as a review board to
resolve disputes between any subscriber or poten-
tial subscriber and the cablevision company;
reviewing and auditing reports by the cablevision
company to the City as required by the Cable
Television Ordinance; working with the public,
the media, the City, and the cablevision company
for the purpose of making recommendations on
various issues; engaging in other activities
pursuant to the effective monitoring and evalua-
tion of the CATV system in the City.
Iowa City appointed members of boards and commis-
sions must be qualified voters of the City of
Iowa City.
This appointment will be made at the January 28,
1986, meeting of the City Council at 7:30 P.M.,
in the Council Chambers. Persons interested in
being considered for this position should contact
the City Clerk, Civic Center, 410 East Washington.

Individuals serving on Boards/Commissions play an important role in advising the
Council on matters of interest to our community and its future. Applicants must reside
in Iowa City.
The City Council announces Advisory Board/Commission vacancies 90 days prior to the
date the appointment will be made. This period provides for a 30 -day advertising period
and a 6O -day training period for new members. The training period allows new members to
become familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the advisory board/commission
before becoming a full voting member.
After a vacancy has been announced and the 30 -day advertising period has expired, the
Council reviews all applications during the informal work session. The appointment is
announced at the next formal Council meeting. Appointees serve as unpaid volunteers.
Council prefers that all applications must be submitted to the City Clerk no later

The duties of the members of the Design Review
Committee include encouraging and promoting the
acceptability, attractiveness, cohesiveness and
general design compatibility of new construc-
tion and rehabilitation, both public and private,
within and adjacent to the central business dis-
trict of Iowa City; to review preliminary plans
and development and construction in both the pri-
vate and public sectors; to make recommendations
on the architectural, aesthetic and general
design aspects of all proposed public and private
improvements within and adjacent to the central
business district redevelopment area.

ADVISORY BOARD/COMMISSION APPLICATION FORM
Individuals serving on Boards/Coamissions play an important role in advising the
Council on matters of interest to our community and its future. Applicants must reside
in Iowa City. _
The City Council announces Advisory Board/Commission vacancies 90 days prior to the
date the appointment will be made. This period provides for a 30 -day advertising period
and a 60 -day training period for new members. The training period allows new members to
become familiar with the responsibilities and duties of the advisory board/comeission
before becoming a full voting member.
After a vacancy has been announced and the 30 -day advertising period has expired, the
Council reviews all applications during the informal work session. The appointment is
announced at the next formal Council meeting. Appointees serve as unpaid volunteers.
Council prefers that all applications must be submitted to the City Clerk no later
than one week prior to the announced appointment date. PLEASE USE A BLACK INK PEN.
