S. many thousands of veterans of America's armed forces
have served this nation in times of both peace and war,
and in doing so have thereby assured the independence
of all her people, and
S. more than a million veterans enter Veterans Administra-
tion medical facilities nationwide for medical attention
annually, and
i, these hospitalized veterans who yet bear the physical
and emotional scars of war have most surely earned our
gratitude for the many personal sacrifices they have
made in our behalf, and
the Veterans Administration, for the thirteenth consecu-
tive year, has organized a national day of tribute honor-
ing all hospitalized veterans with the purpose of urging
all Americans to remember these men and women especially
on this day, and
we wish to express to the patients in the Iowa VA Medical
Centers our concern, care and sincere appreciation,
EREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa
City, do hereby proclaim February 14, 1986, as SALUTE
TO HOSPITALIZED VETERANS DAY in Iowa City and urge all
citizens to pay tribute to the hospitalized veterans
on this day and each day of the year.

WHEREAS, Kappa Alpha Psi is a national college Greek -letter
organization, and
WHEREAS, the fraternity was founded in 1911 with the pur-
pose of combating the social distance commonly
experienced by Blacks at institutions of higher
education throughout America, and
WHEREAS from the beginning, the members of the organization
have striven to achieve adherence to college
objectives, career accomplishments and purposeful
community participation, and
WHEREAS, the fraternity, which has a membership in excess
of 70,000, is celebrating its 75th anniversary in
1986, and
WHEREAS, the Iowa City -Cedar Rapids Alumni Chapter provides
local community programming and services,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of
Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim 1986 as KAPPA
ALPHA PSI DIAMOND JUBILEE YEAR, and on behalf of the
citizens of this City, I commend them for their fine
achievements.
