MEMORANDUM Date: March 19, 1986 To: Dale Helling and the City Council From: Chuck Schmadeke, Director of Public Works G/j Re: Refuse Pickup About a year ago, the City Council amended that part of the refuse ordi- nance relating to collection from multi -family dwellings. The amendment was intended to identify multi -family dwellings which would receive City refuse collection service. The ordinance amendment has not accomplished its intended goal and therefore a change in the ordinance is once again recommended. The City should provide refuse collection only to those residential dwell- ings which are best suited for public refuse collection service. Not all residential dwellings are suited to City refuse collection service since the City picks up refuse only once a week, refuse must be placed at the curb; and containers may not be larger than 35 gallons and may not weigh more than 15 lbs. when full. In addition, most individual dwelling units in large complexes do not have adequate space for the weekly storage of refuse. Public Works recommends collecting residential refuse from the operation and maintenance of single-family, duplex, triplex, and fourplex dwellings when each dwelling or dwelling unit is located on its own lot wi age on a public street. th front- tp5/5 6,?S r - City of Iowa City MEMORANDUM DATE: April 2, 1986 TO: Dale Helling and Cityouncil FROM: Chuck Schmadeke C RE: Refuse Collection Ordinance The following properties will lose City refuse collection service if the proposed changes in the refuse collection ordinance are adopted: Westwinds Drive (2 -Six Plexes, 1 -Eight Plex) 601, 605, 609, 613, 617, 621, 629, 633, 637, 641, 645, 649, 653, 657 Owner's Representative: Dell A.
