P R O C L A M A T I O N
WHEREAS, Governor Terry Branstad has declared this year
as "Iowa Homecoming 86" in Iowa, stating that
it is "---a time for us to celebrate everything
that is good about Iowa --our people, our heritage,
our values and our traditions," and
WHEREAS, Iowa City takes pride in having played a very
important role throughout the years in shaping
and influencing Iowa's heritage, values, and
traditions, and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that Iowa City citizens observe
Iowa Homecoming 86 and participate in the many
related activities planned for our community, and
WHEREAS, local business and industrial representatives and
organizations will be actively promoting Iowa
Homecoming 86, and
WHEREAS, enthusiastic promotion of and support for Iowa
Homecoming 86 on the part of all citizens,
interest groups and community organizations
will enhance our efforts to promote statewide
economic development and to restore a healthy
economy to our home state, and
WHEREAS, we are proud to be citizens of Iowa and we intend
to support Iowa Homecoming 86 throughout this year
and contribute to the success of this great
celebration,

THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City
of Iowa City, do hereby proclaim the year 1986
as the celebration of Iowa Homecoming 86 in Iowa
City and I urge all citizens to actively participate
in the events associated with this celebration which
reflects our proud dedication to the creation of
an even better Iowa.

WHEREAS, the Board of Directors of the Mayor's Youth
Employment Program has designated a week in
April as Youth Employment Week to heighten
community awareness of the importance of
training and employing our young people of
Johnson County, and
WHEREAS, MYEP, funded by the State of Iowa, local units
of government, the Iowa City Community School
District, and United Way, has a major goal to
assist disadvantaged youth in their develop-
ment of occupational skills in order to over-
come barriers to employment and become self
sufficient adults, and
WHEREAS, the selection committee of MYEP annually
recognizes student enrollees and worksite
supervisors for outstanding performance during
the academic year, awards to be given at the
City Council meeting on April 22, 1986, 7:30
P.M., in the Council Chambers of the Civic
Center,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the
City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim
the week of April 20 - 26, 1986, as YOUTH
EMPLOYMENT WEEK in Iowa City and urge all
residents to become more aware of and more
involved in the efforts to train and employ
our youth.

The board of directors of Mayor's Youth annually selects young people on
our program to receive an award for outstanding work performance during
the academic school year. In addition, worksite supervisors are honored
for their commitment in training youth of Johnson County.

WHEREAS, Alpha Phi Omega National Coed Service Fraternity
on the campus of The University of Iowa has been
performing valuable service for over two years
since the reinstatement of the chapter and forty-
two years prior to reinstatement, and
WHEREAS, it has been suggested that a day be dedicated to
encourage all of our citizens to participate in
activities which would benefit the general welfare
of our society, and
WHEREAS, such a
day will hand
help rekindle the general spirit
