IOWA CV, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-5000 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, public works services provided in our community are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives, and WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed citi- zenry is vital to the efficient operation of public works systems and programs such as water, sewers, streets and highways, solid waste collection, and snow removal, and / WHEREAS, the health, safety, and comfort of this community greatly depend on these facilities and services, and WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design, and construction are vitally dependent upon the efforts and skill of public works officials, and WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated person- nel who staff our Public Works Department is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa do hereby proclaim May 18 - 24, 1986, as PUBLIC WORKS WEEK in Iowa City, and call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint them- selves with the problems involved in providing our public works and to recognize the contributions that public works officials make every day to our health, safety, and comfort. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-5000 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Iowa City's existing industries are a very important segment of economic development, and WHEREAS, these industries merit our very special appre- ciation and awareness for their contributions toward our continued economic growth and pros- perity, and WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of Iowa has designated the week of May 1 8 - 24 as "Iowa Industry Recog- nition Week" urging all Iowans to join in saluting the role of industry in Iowa's continued growth, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do proclaim the week of May 18 - 24, 1986, as INDUSTRY RECOGNITION WEEK in Iowa City and encourage all citizens to take this opportunity to recognize industries in our com- munity for their contributions to Iowa City's economy and quality of life, both as employers and good neighbors. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-50Cp P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, the National Institute on Drug Abuse is working with Optimist Clubs International to develop a drug and alcohol prevention program throughout the United States, and WHEREAS, over a two-year period, local Optimist Clubs will be working with schools to help start and main- tain "Just Say No" Clubs, and WHEREAS, the "Just Say No" movement will help our country become a place where young people will feel good about saying "NO" to drugs and leading healthy, drug-free lives, and WHEREAS, a major event in the "Just Say No" movement will take place on May 22, 1986, when concerned people all over the country will participate in a nation- wide walk against drugs, and WHEREAS, this is an effort which should receive our whole- hearted support in order to make our community a drug-free and wholesome place in which our young people may learn and develop, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim May 22, 1986, as 'JUST SAY NO" DAY in Iowa City, and encourage all citizens to give their support to this effort. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319)356-500D P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Governor Terry Branstad has proclaimed the month of May 1986 as "Older Iowans' Month" in the State of Iowa, and WHEREAS, Iowa leads the nation in the percentage of its population that are among the oldest of the old with 601 persons living in the State over 100 years of age, and WHEREAS, Iowa City wishes to join other Iowans in acknow- ledging the guidance and contributions which our older residents have given and continue to give, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the month of May 1986 as OLDER IOWANS' MONTH in Iowa City, and encourage all individuals, schools, religious bodies, fraternal and civic groups to join with public agencies in observing this month and rein- forcing Iowa's appreciation of its older citizens. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-500D P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, the month of May has been proclaimed as Older Iowans Month, and communities across Iowa have been encouraged to give special recognition to older persons, and the role of senior centers in serving them, and WHEREAS, senior centers in Iowa affirm the dignity, self- worth and independence of older persons by facili- tating their decisions and actions; tapping their experiences, skills and knowledge, and enabling their continued contribution to the community, and WHEREAS, senior centers function as service delivery focal points, helping older persons to help themselves and each other in offering services or access to community services as needed, and WHEREAS, the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center serves as a visible commitment to our older citizens, and WHEREAS, organizations such as the Countil of Elders are planning events to make this a memorable occasion for older citizens in Iowa City, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the week of May 19 - 23, 1986, as SENIOR CENTER WEEK in Iowa City and ask residents to join in this time of recognition of older citizens.
