IOWA cv, IOWA 52240 (319)356-5000 P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, our City is enhanced and beautified by the Iowa River as it passes through the heart of the City, and WHEREAS, the Iowa River is the City's primary source of drinking water as well as a vital recreational resource, and WHEREAS, the month of June 1986 has been proclaimed by Governor Terry Branstad in conjunction with "National Rivers Month," as a time for all Iowans to partake of the recreational opportunities provided along the State's rivers and to become informed and involved in actions to assure the river's continued presence and use, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-5000 P R O C L A M A T I O N i WHEREAS, the City recognizes the Iowa River as a primary recreational resource for boating activities, and WHEREAS, the safety and welfare of all recreational users of the Iowa River in Iowa City is of vital concern, and i WHEREAS, President Ronald Reagan has proclaimed June 1 through June 7, 1986, as National Safe Boating Week, i NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319) 356-5C0C) P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, by Act of the Congress of the United States dated June 14, 1977, the first official flag of the United States was adopted, and WHEREAS, by Act of the Congress dated August 3, 1949, June 14 of each year was designated "National Flag Day," and WHEREAS, on December 8, 1982, the National Flag Day Foundation was chartered to conduct educational programs and to encourage all Americans to pause for the Pledge of Allegiance as part of National Flag Day ceremonies, and WHEREAS, Flag Day celebrates our nation's symbol of unity and stands for our country's devotion to freedom, to the rule of all and the equal rights of all, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa do hereby proclaim June 14, 1986, as FLAG DAY in Iowa City, and urge all citizens to display our country's flag on this day.
