WASHINGTON ST IOWA IOWA Cf1Y, IOWA 52240 P R O C L A M A T I O N CITY (319) 356-5000 WHEREAS; August National2Civil Rightshas 6een Day inctheed the Unitedfirst States',nual and WHEREAS, on August 12, 1986, all America will pause to honor and pay respect to the thousands of individuals of all races - black, white, brown, red and yellow - and of all creeds, religions, nationalities who have and are contributing so much in order that we all might be "...free at last", and WHEREAS, we must always be reminded that the struggle for equality and justice is not finished in America, and there is yet much left for each of us to do, and WHEREAS, on August 12, 1986, at 12:00 noon, all Americans are being asked to pause for a moment of silent tribute to the fallen heroes of the struggle, church bells will toll eleven times as a reminder to us that the hour is lite—and we have not yet reached our goal of Liberty, Equality and Justice for All, NOW, THEREFORE, I, William J. Ambrisco, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim August 12, 1986, as CIVIL RIGHTS DAY in Iowa City and urge all citizens of our city to join in the national effort to increase our awareness of the efforts yet to be made to attain equality for all.
