Duties: In appropriate cases and subject to

appropriate conditions and safeguards, make special
exceptions to the terms of the ordinances in harmony
with general purpose and intent and in accordance
with general or specific rules therein contained and
provide that any property owner aggrieved by the
action of the Council in the adoption of such r:u-
lations and restrictions may petition to the said
Board of Adjustment directly to modify regulations
and restrictions as applied to such property owners.
It can only act pursuant to the zoning ordinance.
It has no pow>r to act upon any ordinances other
than the zoning ordinance. It cannot grant a vari-
ance unless specific statutory authority presides
for granting of a variance. Varian es granted order
Iona Code, Chapter 414.12(3) and Iova City Mnicipal
Cade A-8.10.291 1(d) my only be granted in the case
of "unnecessary hardship." The hardship mat be

The duties of mafbers of the Senior Center
Commission are to:
1. Serve in an advisory role to the City Council
with regard to needs of the Senior Center.
2. Vake recammdations with regard to policies and
programs at the Senior Center.
3. Join staff and other interested persons in
seeking adequate financial resources for the
operation of the Senior Center.
4. Enoourage full participation by senior citizens
in the programs of the Senior Center.
5. Ensure that the Senior Center is effectively
integrated into the camnity and cooperates
with organizations with comm goals in meeting
the needs of the senior citizens.
6. Serve in an advocacy role with regard to the
needs of senior citizens in Ioe City.
Iowa City appointed members of boards and call -
missions mat be gelified voters of the City of
Iowa City.
This appointment will be made at the October 21,
1986, meeting of the City Council at 7:30 pm. in
the Cmncil awkm. FErsons interested in being
