IOWA CITY, IOWA 52240 (319)356-500D P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, Iowa City is enhanced and beautified by the Iowa River as it passes through the heart of the City, and WHEREAS, the Iowa River is the City's primary source of drinking water as well as a vital recreational resource, and WHEREAS, the month of June 1985 has been proclaimed by Governor Terry Branstad, in conjunction with "National Rivers Month", as a time for all Iowans to partake of the recreational opportunities pro- vided along the State's rivers and to become informed and involved in actions to assure the River's continued presence and use, NOW, THEREFORE, I, John McDonald, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do hereby proclaim the month of June 1985 as IOWA RIVER MONTH and urge all citizens to actively pursue the preservation and protection of the Iowa River and its banks. IOWA ON IOWA 52240 (319) 356-50M P R O C L A M A T I O N WHEREAS, June 1985 has been proclaimed as Iowa River Month -- a time of celebration and concern for this important natural feature in our community, and WHEREAS, Project GREEN has secured for our community a vision of the Iowa River as a unique resource in history, natural beauty and recreation, and WHEREAS, the persistent work of Project GREEN has resulted in beautification projects, preservation of natural features and vistas, and the development and enhance- ment of walkways along the Iowa River, NOW, THEREFORE, the City of Iowa City and Iowa City Riverfront Commission officially recognize and honor Project GREEN for its major contributions in maintaining and improving riverfront areas for our community's enjoyment and appreciation. -ohn McDonald Ma or Signed in Iowa City, Iowa, this 4th day of June 1985.
