PROCLAMATION
Whereas, many thousands of veterans of America's armed forces have served this
nation in times of both peace and war and, in doing so, have thereby assured the
independence of all her people, and
Whereas, more than a million veterans enter the Department of Veterans Affairs
Medical Centers nationwide for medical attention annually, and

of war have most surely earned our gratitude for the many personal sacrifices they
have made on our behalf, and
Whereas, the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Centers, for the thirtieth
consecutive year, have organized a national day of tribute honoring all
hospitalized veterans with the purpose of urging Americans to remember these
men and women, especially on this day, and
Whereas, we wish to express to the patients in the Department of Veterans Affairs
Medical Centers our concern, care, and sincere appreciation.
NOW, therefore, I, Regenia Bailey, Mayor of the City of Iowa City, Iowa, do
hereby proclaim February 14, 2008, as
