RE: Proclamation of Architecture Month, April 2008
Dear Mayor and Council
The American Institute of Architects is requesting your support of a proclamation to
declare April "Architecture Month in Iowa City". The purpose of this proclamation is to
help recognize the value of the built environment in our lives and note the contribution of
architects in support of the health, safety, and well being of the public.
Of particular note is the continuing effort to improve the design and construction of
buildings to achieve a positive affect on our environment. The American Institute of
Architects, Iowa Chapter, is committed to the State of Iowa and the sustainability of our
environment across the state by developing and promoting the means to reach at least
a 50% carbon emission reduction by 2010 in new buildings and carbon neutral buildings
by 2030, and engaging Iowa communities in creating healthier, safer, and more
dynamic places to live, work and play.
We ask that the council adopt this proclamation at an upcoming public meeting.
Please find enclosed a copy of the proposed proclamation.
