(319) 356-5030 RESOLUTION NO. 08-197 RESOLUTION WAIVING ALL CITY-OWNED UTILITY CHARGES FOR CONSUMPTION IN JUNE AND JULY, 2008, FOR ALL PROPERTIES (RESIDENTIAL, COMMERCIAL, OR INDUSTRIAL) WHICH HAVE SUFFERED INTERIOR STRUCTURE PENETRATION BY FLOOD WATER AS A RESULT OF THE 2008 FLOODING. WHEREAS, a number of residential, commercial, and industrial properties have suffered interior flood damage of occupied structures as a result of penetration by flood water in the flooding of June and July, 2008; and WHEREAS, the City wishes to encourage thorough cleanup and recovery of said properties, including whatever water, sewer, and refuse service is needed, to re-establish good health and hygiene in the flood-affected areas; and WHEREAS, the financial loss to most of said owners is substantial; and WHEREAS, to provide some relief to persons affected by the flood, City-owned utility charges for consumption in June and July, 2008 should be waived for all properties which have suffered interior flood damage of occupied structures; and WHEREAS, it is in the interest of the City of Iowa City to waive said utility charges. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF IOWA CITY, IOWA, THAT: The City Water and Revenue Divisions are hereby authorized to waive all City-owned utility charges for consumption in the months of June and July, 2008 for properties (residential, commercial, or industrial) that have suffered interior flood damage of occupied structures. 2. The Water Division shall determine what properties qualify for said waiver under this Resolution.
