'4 City of Iowa City
PROCLAMATION
Whereas, the University of Iowa and the Iowa City communities are inextricably
linked through a variety of partnerships, businesses, restaurants, volunteer
activities, and the desire to support one another in their endeavors; and
Whereas, a committee of community and University members are working together to
provide events that promote Iowa City's many cultural, recreational, and civic
opportunities to new students that reflect the students' rich experiences in the
classroom; and
Whereas, the week of August 23-29, 2008 has been recognized as "Welcome Week"
in the University of Iowa and the City of Iowa City; and
Whereas, all citizens of Iowa City, Coralville, Cedar Rapids, and surrounding
communities are encouraged to visit http://welcome.uiowa.edu and participate in
the Taste of Iowa City on Wednesday, August 27, from 4-8 p.m. in downtown
Iowa City.
NOW therefore, be it resolved that I, Regenia D. Bailey, Mayor of the City of Iowa
City, do hereby proclaim August 23 - 29, 2008 as:
"Welcome Week"
and urge Iowa City residents and University of Iowa students to participate in and to
celebrate the many opportunities our community has to offer.
