RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE BIKEWAYS REPORT AND PLAN AS AN AMENDMENT TO THE
IOWA CITY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR LAND USE, TRAFFICWAYS, AND COMMUNITY
FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, the Iowa City Comprehensive Plan states that one of its
transportation policies is to "develop a safe, continuous bikeway
system which will encourage the use of the bicycle for transportation
and recreation by all age groups"; and,
WHEREAS, one of the recommendations of the transportation section
of the Comprehensive Plan is to "adopt and implement the Bikeways
Report and Plan"; and,
WHEREAS, the Planning & Zoning Commission and the City Council
have held public hearings as required for amending the Comprehensive
Plan.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF IOWA CITY that
the Bikeways Report and Plan be adopted by the City Council as an
amendment to the Comprehensive Plan, to provide a basis for decisions
regarding the implementation of a Bikeway System in Iowa City.
It was moved by Neuhauser and seconded by Lynch that
the resolution as read be adopted, and upon roll call there were:

RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE BIKEWAYS REPORT AND PLAN AS AN AMENDMENT TO THE
IOWA CITY COMPREHENSIVE PLAN FOR LAND USE, TRAFFICWAYS, AND COMMUNITY
FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, the Iowa City Comprehensive Plan states that one of its

PENTACREST GARDEN COURT APARTMENTS.
WHEREAS, the City Council of Iowa City, Iowa, on
November 22, 1977, approved the preliminary and final large scale
residential development for Pentacrest Garden Court Apartments
(Resolution No. 77-447); and
WHEREAS, the Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission has

SENIOR CENTER PURPOSES, GOALS, AND OBJECTIVES
PRINCIPAL PURPOSE: To support the effort to maintain or• improve n personally
acceptable quality of life for Johnson County Senior
Citizens.
PRINCIPAL GOAL: To operate a facility from which an array of services,
programs, and activities that support independent living,
stimulate personal growth, and provide a channel/forum for
inter -community relationships among participants are
effectively assembled and promoted.
PURPOSE A
To promote and facilitate the accessibility and use of social, health,
educational, legal, recreational, nutritional, and other services to Johnson
County senior citizens who desire these services.
GOAL 1
To minimize duplication and eliminate gaps in the areas of service planning
and delivery by facilitating inter -agency communication and cooperation.
The result will be the improvement of accessibility into and progress
through the service system.
A
To consider both initial and continuing agency and organization
participation in the Senior Center based on the regular review of
agency plans and ability to implement, support, and maintain programs
and activities consistent with the Senior Center's purposes, goals,
and objectives.
B
To organize an ongoing process through which the directors of agencies
providing services to the elderly will share ideas and information in
order to coordinate the delivery and improvement of services.
C
To develop agreements and statements of understanding with each
participating agency and organization as to expectations and mutual
responsibilities.
D
To develop and maintain an ongoing record keeping system, and make
constructive recommendations relating to current or future programs
to better meet senior citizen needs and interests. To identify needed
services the community does not provide.

RESOLUTION NO. 80-119
RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE CONCEPT OF A SHARED/JOINT USE SWIMMING POOL FOR
THE COMMUNITY.
WHEREAS, the construction of an additional indoor swimming pool facility
has for some years been identified as a primary need for our community,
and
WHEREAS, such a facility would greatly benefit the citizens of Iowa City
and the surrounding area for both educational and recreational purposes,
and
WHEREAS, the Swimming Pool Task Committee has in the past three months
explored the issue and proposed a course of action implementing a joint
planning committee for the second phase of this project,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF IOWA CITY that the
City Council endorses the concept of a shared/joint use swimming pool for
the community and considers further participation to be a desirable
alternative for the future.
