HomeMy WebLinkAbout1976-01-02 CorrespondenceLES OF PROCEDURE FOR TUE ORGANITIONAL MEL•'TING •Appointment OfCityClerk as Chairperson Pro tem. �( The procedure for selection of Mayor is as follows: ✓ J 1) the ballot for Mayor will be by secret ballot unless there is a motion to cast a unanimous 2) only persons -n ballot, ominated may receive votes, ; - 3)asecond is not required for a nomination, 4) ballots will be tabulated by the Clerk and the 5) the first person receiving City Managerctt votes in a shall be the Mayor for the given ballot - years 1976 and 1977. Procedure for Mayor Pro tem is same as ,for Mayor, -and under the Charter; for a 2 year period. _- Appointments Last time the City Attorney was appointed fora two. year term expiring Jan: 1 1976. In the Charter the time period could be open-ended, and the same -in the State Code. According to the Iowa City Municipal Code, 2.08.1 the City Clerk is appointed at the first meeting after the biennial _ election.. 1'he Charter leaves the term open-ended as does the State Code. If these two appointments were open-ended, - the salaries could be considered in June along with the rest of the City. - e' y RULES OF PROCEDURE FOR THE ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING L.
