In an earlier discussion with Councilmembers, the question came
up regarding the secret ballot. All previous Councils held
their Mayor election in this manner, with the Clerk & City Mgr.
canvassing the vote.
I do not see that the Charter sets out any special procedure,
or the Code of Iowa.. Maybe I just didn't look in the right
section.
Can the Councilmembers, after the nomination, have a voice vote
if a majority of the members vote to proceed in this manner?
We are supposed to be using Roberts Rules of Order, but I think
there are several ways they suggest for nomination &;election.
Do you suggest any procedure? I will swear in the two remaining
Councilmembers before noon. After the Mayor & Mayor Pro -tem
are elected, they should also be sworn -in?
