BENTON'ST., KINGDOM SUBD.,', FROM 111A to R2, be passed and adopted. Affirmative roll call vote unanimous, 7/0, all Councilmembers present. - / 7 Y2 Lowell Cross appeared re traffic at corner of Seventh Ave./Glendale Rd. & requested a 4 -way stop. After discussion, it was the consensus of a majority of Councilmembers, that, as an experiment, 4 -way stop signs be installed at that corner, with warning 'Slow' signs at the top of the hill. Discussion of city-wide problems will be scheduled for an informal 7S� session. Public hearing was held on the Ord. Amending Ord. 77-2859 which i, adopted the Uniform Building Code Standards & Uniform Building Code, 1976 Editions, subj. to certain amendments. This amendment would allow unlimited area in a l or 2 -story covered mall surrounded & adjoined by public space, streets, or yards not less than sixty feet in width on three sides. Staff 'present 'answered questions, from Councilmembers. - / 7S/ Moved by deProsse, seconded, by Perret, to approve the appointment o• of Stan Aldinger to the Moor's Youth Employment Board as recommended by the Iowa City Community School Dist. Motion carried unanimously, 7/0. 17S2 Moved by deProsse, seconded by Perret; to approve ,the appointment of a Patricia Hayek to the Parks & Recreation Comm. as recommended by the 1. C. Community School Dist. Motion carried unanimously, 7/0. Moved by 7 S3 r Neuhauser, seconded by Balmer, to reappoint James Harris, 219 Ronalds St., and to appoint Letha Lovelace, 1829,Kathlin Dr. to 'fill vacancies E on the Qohnson County Regional Planning Commission for three-year terms expiring 9/26/81. The vacancy on the Board of Electrical Examiners & Appeals will be readvertised. i Perret reported on tour of Washington St plantings. Maintenance 4p and on-site inspection for planting in Plaza were discussed with staff. ,v- Perret also questioned placement of signs re parking spaces for 'handi- caoped. Asst. ',City 'Mgr. Helling called attention to other signage being provided. Dev. Coord. Glaves'explained that the sidewalk area in front - of the Jefferson Building was in the present construction project, and advised that the University had paid the balance over the average city cost for vault repair. Neuhauser complimented Agnes Kuhn on the Human Rights commercial aired on radio. Balmer commented on the traffic problems in the Benton/ Riverside area, & suggestedallowing'Bentontraffic to turn left (north) at Clinton, & questioned effect of this additional traffic on Court "& Burlington. Balmer also noted concerns with the State Bus Fare Subsidy. Other Councilmembers responded with their',' comments & concerns. In answer to City Mgr. Berlin's question, there were no objections to City Engineer Dietz' request to asphalt a portion of Court St. west of Madison as outlined in his memo. Berlin called attention to the October 3rd meeting with D.O.T. at Ames. After discussion, of who would represent the Council at the meeting, it was decided', that Councilwoman Neuhauser would give the majority point of view. Affirmative roll call vote unanimous, 7/0, all Councilmembers present. 1760 Moved by Balmer, seconded by deProsse, that the ORDINANCE AMENDING THE BUILDING CODE TO ALLOW FORA REDUCTION IN THE AMOUNT OF NATURAL LIGH -REQUIRED IN KITCHENS, be considered and given second'vote for passage. Motion carried 5/2,, Perret and Erdahl voting 'no'..Roll call ! on second vote for passage, 5/2: Ayes: Roberts, Vevera, Balmer, deProsse, Neuhauser. Moved by Balmer, seconded by Erdahl, to adjourn the regular meeting, to the City Manager's Conference Room for discussion of the draft of the letter to D.O.T. on FW518 Motion carried unanimously,8•45 p. M. 1763 With all Councilmembers present, 3 Staffinembers and 5 representatives of news media, Council went thru the proposed letter, paragraph by j paragraph, making 'corrections & suggestions.
