Part ll. Start up in morning_- 400 gallons water containing 200 ppm of chlorine' flushed thru system, followed with milk flush out to drain. At end of run, milk is flushed from system with 400 gallons water. The pasteurizer is then washed with 200 gallons caustic solution, which at completion of wash cycle, is discharged to the drain in about a 10 minute period of time, followed with about 400 gallons of flush out water. This is followed with an acid wash (food grade phosphoric acid) that stays in the pasteurizing system until the following morning, when it is flushed out at the start up of the system. 1 The tanks, vats and lines are washed at different times during the day. The tanks are flushed with 150 gallons of water, then washed with an alkaline solution followed with acid rinse'. Two fillers are washed and circulated separately with about 100 gallons of alkaline solution flushed out with about 50 gallons water. Wash time rY about, one hour. The two fillers are spaced no less than an hour apart in i the cleanup cycle. One filler is hand cleaned, and less water and solution . is used.
