The minutes of the March 27,:1975 meeting were corrected to delete the attendance of Board member Downer. A letter was received from Senator Minnette Doderer thanking us for Regional Library expressing concern about the appropriation -for Iowa's System. The letter was -placed on file. The proposal for a change in the New Business: fine structure by the -Director was accepted by the: Board. (see attached) - After a-brief:_discussion on the By -Laws DIRECTOR'S REPORT ' • - Administration 1. A job description for=library board members written jointly- by the President of the Board and the Director has been sent to the City Council and to the City'Clerk'sOffice. 2. The city_,ordinance needed to replace thesectionsconcerning public libraries in the ;Iowa Code _repealed as_a result of new Home Rulelegislationwill be reviewed soon by.City staff and returned to the Board for review before being sent to the-City _Council. 3. The new Trustees' Library _Guide will—be—circulated among all board members. Building $ Equipment 1. The City Engineeras of 4/24/75 has not had an opportunity to work on the specifications for either the roof or the 3rd - floor exit. 2. Installation oftheSmoke Detector. System was completed today - and the Book Depository will reopen Monday, April 28: 3. Installation-date—for the 3M Book -Security System is still • uncertain - but in the next 'few days.-.Planned treatment of library materials has been completed. The electrical work will be done April 25. 4. Negotiations with the city about the_building_- consultant are continuing. 5. The new shelving for the Children's Room has been; ordered.- (part of FY 1976 budget) and will be delivered in the fall. Services - 1. The library received a gift of $200. to be used in any way it -- is needed to aid in establishing library service to the County , Jail. The donors--wished to remain ,anonymous. -- _- 2. Volunteers for the service to the jail -are in the process of being recruited, and guidelines F, objectives are being developed.` 3. The firstquarter report on--Library-Use 'shows:a 10% increase in adult circulation over the same period -a year ago; 33% for - orinformation_rzquests. information rrzquests.The -drop 'in, children's -circulation reflects a changed method of statistic -keeping-beginning January 1,1975.-; 4.
