EXISTING PARKING AND SIDE -YARD REQUIREMENTS. (SECOND READING)
Comment: This ordinance amends sections of the parking side -yard require-
ments currently contained in Chapter 8.10 of the Zoning Ordinance
by increasing off-street parking requirements and making provi-
sions for additional open space of building lots within Iowa City.
The ordinance was amended on May 7, 1974.

Item No. 8 - CONSIDER ORDINANCE TO REZONE A TRACT OF LAND FROM RIA to RIB.
(SECOND READING)
Comment: The Planning and Zoning Commission on March 28, 1974 recommended
by a 5-0 vote that an application submitted by Mr. Dean Oakes
to rezone a 1.48 acre tract of land located east of Prairie du
Chien Road and north of Virginia Avenue from an RIA Zone to an
RIB Zone be approved. The applicant proposes to subdivide the
tract into nine lots. Public Hearing was held April 30, 1974.

Item No. 9 - CONSIDER ORDINANCE ON TURF AND WEED CONTROL. (FIRST READING)
Comment: This ordinance designates the responsibility for turf mainten-
ance and weed control on private property and street and alley
right of ways; establishes a standard of maintenance and defines
certain nuisances involving untended areas and provides for

RELATIONS COORDINATOR POSITION FOR THE CITY OF IOWA CITY.
Comment: The City Manager and the Human Relations Commission have been

Comment: As a result of a citizen inquiry, the Engineering Division of
the Departm::nt of Public Works conducted a study of the sight
distance problem caused by parking on the parking on the east
side of Dodge Street just north of North Summit Street. in order
to gain adequate sight distance for traffic approaching from the
north, a vehicle entering Dodge Street from North Summit must
pull out into the oncoming lane of traffic approaching from the,
south on Dodge Street. An investigation by the City Clerk has
revealed no permit for parking on the parking, however, signs
are erected which woulc permit such. Removal of this parking
on the parking would allow adequate sight distance for vehicles
emerging from North Su:.miit Street.

LICENSING, BOARDING, AND REDEMPTION OF PET ANIMALS.
Comment:
This resolution changing license fees and adoption fees is in
partial response to numerous citizen complaints regarding stray
dogs. Defei>ed from May 7, 1974 Council meeting for further
review; the City Attorney has made several changes and the

In addition to the bids received above, the Union Metal Manu-
facturing Company added a proviso of a freight charge of $521.70
plus a 6% fuel surcharge. This amount should be added to their
bid which makes the total bid $17,220.70. _"
&lso, the Union Metal Manufacturing Company added a statement to
the effect that the prices paid for the poles would be the prices
at the time of shipment.
The total amount for this project amounts to $104,563.91 which is
6.6^% over the Engineer's Estimate of $98,125.00.

Item No. 14 - CONSIDER RESOLUTION ACCEPTING STREET IMPROVEMENTS IN BEL AIR ADDI-
TION PART V.
0 Comment: This resolution accepts the work done by Metro Pavers of Iowa City,
Iowa, on the paving of Glendale Road and Heather Court north of
Glendale Road in Bel Air Addition, Part V. The streets have been
con tructed in accordance with the City's specifications.

Comment: The ve resolutions are nece sary to approve the Mercer Park
Tennis Center Project. Under this project six courts will be
constructed adjacent to the Mercer Park swimming pool. It is
estimated that this project will cost approximately $63,111.

Item No. 17 - PUBLIC HEARING ON DISPOSITION OF AN ALLEY IN BLACK 6, COUNTY
SEAT ADDITION. (V-7401)
Comment: The Univ qf- 1q!jq has requested that th3 alley in Block 6
-if County Seat Addition bounded by Harrison, Madison, Prentiss,
and Capitol Streets be vacated. The University owns the entire
Block and there are no existing utilities or easements in said
alley. The Planning and Zoning Commission on February 14, 1974,
recommended vacation of the alley by a 5-0 vote. Public hearing
on vacation was held March 26, 1974.
