Recommendations:Staff: Approval Commission: N/A Attachments:None Executive S ummary: As directed by Title 9, C hapter 1, Section 3B of the C ity C ode, this is to advise the City Council of the following action: Pursuant to Section 9-1-A (10); Remove the existing parking prohibition along the east side of Miller Avenue, between 952 Miller and Highway 6. Background / Analysis: T he original parking prohibition along this portion of Miller Avenue was established in order to preserve space for I owa City Transit buses. Because there is no longer a transit route along Miller Avenue, the parking prohibition is no longer necessary and the adjacent business has indicated a desire to allow on-street parking. A parking prohibition along the west side of Miller Avenue will remain in place as the street pavement width is less than 26 feet. Item Number: 8.b. Executive S ummary: As directed by Title 9, Chapter 1, S ection 3 B of the C ity Code, this is to advise the City Council of the following action: Pursuant to S ection 9-1-3A(1); E stablish a No R ight Turn on Red prohibition f or eastbound vehicles on J efferson S treet at the intersection with C linton S treet and a No Right Turn on Red prohibition for westbound vehicles on Market S treet at the intersection with Clinton Street. Background / Analysis: T his action is being taken as a required element f or the installation of bicycle turn boxes at these intersections. Turn boxes allow bicyclists to position themselves during the red traffic signal phase in preparation for turns onto adjacent streets. Item Number: 8.c. Executive S ummary: As directed by Title 9, C hapter 1, S ection 3B of the C ity C ode, this is to advise the city council of the following action: Pursuant to section 9-1-3A (1); Remove the following restrictions at the intersection of I owa Avenue and Madison S treet: No Right Turn on Red for southbound vehicles on Madison S treet and eastbound vehicles on I owa Avenue. Background / Analysis: T his action is being taken as Madison S treet has undergone a 4- to 3- lane conversion and traffic signalization no longer requires restricting right turns on red. Background / Analysis: T his action is being taken to alleviate congestion for traffic entering and exiting Barrington Road on school days. T he P olice Department recommended this change to maintain appropriate traffic flow at the intersection and to ensure that students can safely access the sidewalk and trail.
