Winter of 2013--2014, the year of the polar vortex, was
grueling for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Shelter House .staff, the Local Homeless Coordinating
Board, and the Iowa City Police Department collaborated
on a new approach to winter shelteir.
2011
Shelter House began the concerted work of removing
barriers to shelter, housing, and other services.

First approach by winter 20118-2019.
2019
In Januar, Shelter House opened the Cross Park Place,
the State's first Housing First Permanent nent u pportive
Housing apartments.
2021
Winter Shelter services moved to a new, permanent
